What is custom photography?
I took my son to a chain studio at the mall when he was a baby. That was the one and only time I ever did that. I was frustrated with how little time they spent with him and as a result the images of him were of a scared and confused baby. Custom photography is the opposite of a chain studio experience. The goal of a custom photographer is to create art and emotion. What is a session like?
A session includes up to 5 people at a location of your choice (within Lane County). This can be in your own home both indoors and outdoors or at an outdoor location of your choice. If you need suggestions I have many favorite spots. Your session can last anywhere from 45min. to up to 3 hours. I strive to produce images that are a reflection of your true spirit. You will not feel rushed. I find this especially important when photographing small children. Some children actually do better if parents take a step back and allow me to interact one on one with the child. When photographing families, I will take some traditional posed shots but will also snap when you aren’t expecting it. These tend to be my favorite images. They illustrate the connection and emotion with your family. Your session will be fun!
What should I wear?
Solid bright colors and denim photograph well. Textured clothing (sweaters, thermals,) are good choices as well. Stay away from clothing with logos and characters. If this is a family session coordinate the colors and patterns. Wear something you and your child feel comfortable in. For newborns, I prefer them in their natural state- naked, or with a diaper cover on. The simpler the better. Hats and blankets provide interesting textures.
Newborn Sessions?
Newborn sessions are different than regular sessions. They are best scheduled in the first 2 weeks, ideally 5-7 days old. They are still sleepy and easier to get those curled up newborn shots. Call me as soon as possible if you are interested in scheduling, preferably when you are still pregnant. I will put your due date on my calendar and schedule a tentative time. Newborn sessions can take up to 4 hours. They require a lot of patience with the many diaper changes, feedings, burps, etc. but are worth it in the end. These sessions are my favorites.
What happens after my session?
About a week after your session you will be able to view 25-35 proofs in your password protected gallery. You will be able to share this gallery with your family and friends. You can order your prints right there. Your gallery will be up for 2 weeks and then will be taken down. If you wish to keep it up a $30 republishing fee will be charged. Your prints will be ready about 2 weeks after you order them. Canvas prints, storyboards and cards can take longer.
